Your Role:

Our Company is currently seeking an exceptional engineer/scientist at the technical Manager level to lead the Flow Chemistry program globally within the Life Science Chemistry (LSC) organization, located at our Boston site with global responsibilities.

A successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing novel flow chemistry and continuous processing technologies to help ensure our Research & Development group has robust, sustainable, and efficient manufacturing processes for chemicals (ligands and catalysts under inert conditions), materials and biochemicals. This role requires extensive hands-on laboratory experimentation techniques in flow chemistry to train and lead scientists & chemical engineers at different levels globally in a multidisciplinary environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and goal oriented organizational skills are also essential.

Critical tasks include enabling new chemical transformations, influencing route design independently in collaboration with the internal Scientists and external innovators, and supporting production campaigns in our various global manufacturing and kilo lab sites with very strong background in chemical engineering related experience.

The candidate will also be expected to advance an internal culture of scientific excellence in identifying emerging trends within the field by working with internal and external experts. Candidates must possess a proven track record of solving complex flow chemistry problems with good knowledge on equipment selection, equipment design, partnership with vendors and collaborators. Strong written and oral communication skills are very important. The candidate must establish himself/herself as a flow chemistry subject matter expert within MilliporeSigma (business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany) and is expected to mentor those who may be new to the field in building a robust flow group considering safety, process economics, quality and sustainability. This position has the potential for further career advancement.

Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in the sciences field required  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering preferred
  • Additional experience within an academic laboratory (Ph. D and post-doctoral fellowship) or the pharmaceutical/fine chemical industry is a plus.
  • Hands on working experience in developing continuous processes from bench scale to production scale in one of the areas of organic/organometallic/materials chemistry.
  • Experience in utilization of chemical engineering principles and application of advanced technical engineering skills is also required.
  • Demonstrated history of high impact publications/patents and presentations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated fluency in organic, organometallic, or materials chemistry principles.
  • Experience with process development projects from concept, preliminary and final design, through construction, installation and project closure strongly preferred with cost analysis.
  • Experience in air-sensitive chemistry
  • Must be a champion of safety, business ethics.  
  • Use of in-line analytical equipment such as static and continuous GC, HPLC, NMR (H, C, P, F) are important and knowledge of FTIR/React IR, Raman is desirable.
  • Must have conducted outstanding research in their field of expertise that may be shared during the interview process.
  • Experience using quality tools: SPC, Process Capability, Gage R & R, DOE, to develop, scale and improve manufacturing processes is preferred.
