Photocatalytic Fluorination and Fluoroalkylation

07 July 2020

Event overview

The importance of fluorine in drugs and agrochemicals is widely recognised, however the synthesis of fluorinated compounds- particularly structurally complex molecules- can be challenging. In recent years photochemical fluorination has emerged as a powerful tool for the construction of C-F bonds and formation of C-C bonds with fluorine containing functional groups such as di- and trifluoromethyl and perfluoroalkyl. In general these methods are mild and tolerate a range of functional groups, enabling synthesis of biologically active molecules and facilitating late stage fluorination approaches.

Following on from our successful earlier webinars on Aryl/Heteroaryl Fluorination and Alkyl Fluorination (both of which are available to download on our website) we move on to explore photochemical and photoredox approaches to fluorinated molecules and synthetic building blocks, highlighting resent methodology and examples.

This webinar was presented by Dr John Studley, Scientific Update.
