ChemTides: Developing Sustainable Methods for the Large-Scale Manufacture of Pharmaceuticals Containing Nucleosides

Recent medical breakthroughs have exposed a critical gap between the demand for nucleoside containing pharmaceuticals, and the ability of existing chemical methods for their sustainable large-scale synthesis. For example, current solid phase methods for synthesizing oligonucleotides are limited to preparing batches <10 kg whereas the demand for these products is now reaching multi-ton quantities. Also, solid phase methods typically generate over 1000 kg of waste per kg of product obtained. (R. Obexer et al Science 2024, 384 (6692), eadl4015. https://doi.org/10.1126/science.adl4015). 

ChemTides aims to provide a forum for process scientists to present and discuss progress towards novel synthetic methodologies to deliver nucleoside and nucleotide building blocks, and then incorporate them into larger pharmaceutical targets.
