This is a VIRTUAL short course that will look at optimizing a drug metabolism profile as one of the most important actions in drug discovery.

This short course will describe the basic principles of pharmacokinetics, with specific emphasis on drug metabolism. All of the primary metabolic enzymes, pathways and preferred drug substrates will be reviewed, along with informative case studies. Drug metabolism-associated safety concerns, such as reactive metabolite formation and drug-drug interactions (DDIs) due to genetic polymorphisms and inhibition/activation of drug metabolizing enzymes will be discussed. Common assessment and mitigation strategies for metabolism-related issues will also be reviewed.
