POSITION SUMMARY

Lead the Chemical Research & Development (CRD) project team responsible for the design and development of synthetic processes to manufacture APIs, in support of all phases of development up to commercialization and regulatory filing. The candidate will also represent CRD and cross functional project team meetings ensuring the CRD strategy is aligned with the wider project strategy. The candidate will also have opportunities to influence the future direction of the CRD function by application of best practices and influence of the department technology strategy and future direction.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Scientific and Business Strategy:

  • Lead CRD team to design and develop new routes to API and the transfer of these chemical processes to scale up facilities and ultimately to our commercial manufacturing facilities.
  • Provide scientific & business leadership to ensure candidates are positioned for all phases of clinical development through to successful regulatory submission and launch
  • Review CRD (Chemical Research & Development) input to regulatory dossier preparations.
  • Promote and foster innovative development of new chemical and engineering technologies that advance the speed and cost effectiveness of API process development and commercialization.

Leadership and Influence:

  • Represent CRD to ensure good collaboration, proactive engagement and positive relationships are developed and maintained in matrix forums
  • Proactively seek to develop best working practices

Portfolio and Project Management:

  • Ensure line activities are consistent with endorsed activities and aligned with portfolio goals. Communicate broader business perspectives to manage project activities and deliverables.
  • Strategic match of technical talent (skills and experience) with task; leverage broader expert group resources to help with project deliverables.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

You will lead a multi-disciplinary team of  CRD chemists, Process Engineers, technologists, and Crystallisation Technologists. You will liaise with Process Safety Chemists, Pilot Plant facility staff (API-M), Analytical, Formulation and Manufacturing colleagues at Sandwich and other Global Pfizer sites. You will collaborate with regulatory colleagues to prepare regulatory dossiers. Externally you may have contact with other Pharmaceutical companies, external consultants & contractors.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

You will have gained a PhD or Postdoc in organic synthesis,  or an honours degree in chemistry (or a related discipline) and have worked in pharmaceutical development leading projects.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent knowledge of process development, route design and transfer of synthetic process to scale-up facilities.
  • Outstanding broad knowledge of leading API projects through all stages of development
  • Proficient in writing regulatory filings to support all aspects of API development
  • Has an established network and the ability to develop this within Pfizer
  • Able to work collaboratively with other disciplines
  • Ability to apply learnings to new situations and problems
  • Good trouble-shooter, able to support the decision making process to solve complex problems
  • Ability to evaluate information from a broad range of sources
  • Methodical and tactical thinker
