Empowering Women in Organic Chemistry Europe
Date: 15 June - 15 June 2023
Time: 08.30 am - 18.30 pm
Location: Manchester
This event is aimed at enabling networking with industry, academia and women at different career stages, scientific presentations and motivational workshops on themes relevant to women and allies undertaking a career in Organic Chemistry.
Following the success of a US event ‘Empowering Women in Organic Chemistry’ EWOC, which first took place 2019, a group of scientists in Europe decided to organise a similar initiative as a ‘sister’ event, which is being held at the Manchester Conference Centre, Thursday June 15th 2023.
Recent data and publications show a persistent lack of women pursuing and maintaining careers in Organic Chemistry. Evidence indicates that providing an opportunity for women to meet, network, and share scientific and career strategies is one effective approach to encourage women to enter and maintain careers in science.
This is a not-for-profit event, supported through sponsorship and industrial registration fees.
Registration is FREE to any chemist either studying towards a PhD in Chemistry at a European University or to Young Academics including postdoctoral researchers. However, places are limited, so you are advised to book early to avoid disappointment. If you are able to pay the £75 registration fee, this will enable more students / academics to attend without charge – thank you.

Inspirational Career Development Talks
Dr Hannah Roberts, is a women’s leadership coach, trainer and motivational speaker. She will be delivering the following two workshops:
Workshop 1: Accelerating Careers Designed for Fulfilment
Working longer and harder than everyone else is not the route to fulfilment and backfires as a strategy to kickstart your career.
During this workshop, you will be guided through the 6-step Career Pivots® Compass methodology to find balance, confidence and fulfilment. Each step of the compass will elevate your career to give you clarity on ‘what’s next?’ and make it happen.
- Uncover which stage of the Intentional Career™ journey you are at and what needs to shift to move you up through to fulfilled and valued.
- Discover if you are in the capability trap, career values conflict or disconnected vision and what to do about it.
- Leave with three clear action steps and the accountability in place to kickstart your journey to an Intentional Career™.
Workshop 2: Beyond Imposter Syndrome
Many people are torn – afraid to speak up, be seen, or minimise their achievements and at the same time, are frustrated that they are getting in their own way. Feeling like you will be exposed to not know enough and being your own worst critic is a toxic combination. It can result in procrastination, individualism and ruminating thoughts. During this 90-minute workshop you will:
- Learn the three layers to imposter syndrome, where these thoughts and beliefs originate from and three tools to overcome your imposter and fulfil your true potential.
- Discover your unique stress team of ‘selves’ and how to move beyond imposter syndrome by separating from their agendas and regaining real choice in your behaviours and actions.
- Leave with three gold standard tools to break the cycle of pre-empting, overthinking and ruminating and unlock your true potential.
